Maylandia barlowi, photo from Ribbink et al. (1983)

Maylandia barlowi, photographed underwater at Maleri Island, Malawi. This is the species previously known informally as Pseudotropheus "zebra fusco." Maylandia barlowi is unusual, but not unique, among Malawi cichlids in having yellow or "golden" males; another species with this characteristic is its relative Maylandia lombardoi. Photo from Plate 1f of Ribbink et al., 1983; reproduced by permission of the Zoological Society of Southern Africa.
