The freshly killed and fixed holotype of
Labidochromis mathotho (USNM 215032, said to be a male 68.2 mm SL).
The type locality, unfortunately, was reported merely as "Lake Malawi."
Lewis (1982), in his revision of
Labidochromis,
was unable to identify any other specimens with L. mathotho but
considered that his own L. heterodon was
closely similar and possibly identical. Photo by H. R. Axelrod,
reproduced with the permission of T.F.H. Publications, Inc. from
Burgess & Axelrod (1976).
