A male Aulonocara macrochir trawled in the southeast arm of Lake Malawi.
The members of this genus all have greatly
inflated sensory canals in the head; this part of the lateral line system (present in all cichlids
but not so enlarged in most of them) presumably enables very sensitive reception of vibrations.
